GBA
Game Boy Advance · 2001–2010
Nintendo's 32-bit handheld and, for many, the last great home of the 2D game — a library that married SNES-grade action and RPGs to a portable screen. Around 1,000 titles span the platform, and the collecting market is led by a late-life RPG vein (the Mother and Fire Emblem titles, the Castlevania and Metroid handheld entries) and by the curious Classic NES Series of straight ports. The platform's small cartridges travelled without boxes, so complete-in-box copies of the marquee titles are scarcer than the loose abundance suggests, and the import market — especially the never-localised Mother 3 — is a pursuit of its own.

Three titles to know
The cultural and market anchors. If you take three things from this room, take these.
The never-localised masterpiece. The EarthBound sequel released only in Japan and, despite two decades of fan campaigns, has never received an official Western edition. A sealed Japanese Mother 3 is the platform's import grail — scarcity by Nintendo's refusal to localise.
The series' Western debut — the game that introduced the franchise to the West through Smash Bros. A late, modest-print strategy RPG, a complete first print is among the more valuable standard GBA games and a cornerstone of the handheld's RPG canon.
The handheld Zelda peak and a late-life GBA release. Complete copies have climbed steadily as the platform's collector base matured — a beloved object and a strong representative of the late-GBA scarcity pattern.

First-print indicators
The grammar collectors use to authenticate and date copies of this platform.
GBA cartridges carry label revisions and date codes that place a copy in early or late production. On long-lived Pokémon titles especially, label variants distinguish first runs from later reprints.
The small cartridges travelled without boxes, so loose copies are abundant. Complete-in-box copies of the marquee titles — with the cardboard box, insert and manual — are markedly scarcer and carry the value.
Nintendo's Classic NES Series ported NES titles to the GBA in distinctive packaging. These are a self-contained collecting set and a documented variant axis for the ported titles.
Several landmark titles (Mother 3) released only in Japan. Region of release determines which version exists and where the scarcity lies for a given title.
Late GBA releases (2005–2006) printed in smaller numbers as the DS took over. Catalogue position late in the platform's life is a strong driver of completeness scarcity.
