The end of a lineage — the last dedicated handheld in Nintendo's portable line before the Switch absorbed both roles, with a deep eight-year library spanning first-party flagships and a rich seam of RPGs and niche releases. Its collecting market sharpened when the 3DS eShop closed: digital titles that were never sold physically became permanently inaccessible, and physical-only and late low-print releases gained new weight as the only way to own much of the library. The 3DS is an emerging-collectibility platform defined by late RPGs, limited editions, and the hard line the store closure drew between what survives physically and what does not.
