Mattel's challenger to the Atari 2600 and, for a window around 1980–82, a genuine threat — sharper graphics, a keypad controller with overlays, and the famous George Plimpton ad campaign that put the two consoles side by side. The library is around 125 titles, collected by its distinctive overlay-and-manual completeness and by a handful of late, low-print releases that shipped as the 1983 crash hit. The Intellivision also has one of the warmest collector communities of the early era — the platform was revived and supported by fans for decades — which sustains demand for complete, boxed examples of a library most modern collectors first meet through the hobby rather than memory.
