Valve
Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Portal — the PC-anchored canon.
Founded 1996 by Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington. Half-Life shipped 1998 through Sierra and immediately re-defined the FPS as a narrative form. Half-Life big-box first prints are the most consistently appreciating PC collectible of the late-90s era. Steam launched 2003, ending the boxed-PC retail era for Valve directly but leaving the original big-box releases as the canonical objects.
