Founded 1979 by four ex-Atari designers — the first independent third-party console publisher in history. Pitfall! on the Atari 2600 (1982) became the first third-party blockbuster. The vintage Activision Atari 2600 catalog is foundational; the modern Activision Blizzard era is a separate market.
